Phillip Stevens, 1942-1963

Phillip Quentin Stevens, 31, of 607 N. Lorraine, died Sunday, December 1, 1963, after being hospitalized since November 20 when he suffered burns in an accident at Continental Motors, Inc., 332 S. Broadway in Wichita.

Stevens was burned when a plastic container of lacquer thinner exploded in a restroom at Continental Motors, where he was employed. Another worker had been using the thinner to wash walls.

Stevens was born October 13, 1942. He was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. He attended Wichita public schools and graduated from East High School in 1960.

Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Rex Stevens; his twin brother Rex Patrick; two sisters, Jane and Christine, of the home; and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. David Bengston, McPherson, Kansas.

Cochrane Mortuary handled arrangements.

Editor’s note: We regret that the photo previously placed above this obituary was not Phillip Stevens but his twin brother Rex Patrick. We had retrieved the photo labeled with Phillip’s name from the 1959 yearbook, but yearbook editors has mistakenly switched the names. Our apologies to Rex and many thanks to him for catching the error.
