Sally Dye Kinzy, “Bob would have loved that video!”

Bob Kinzy, 1942-2021

Sally Dye Kinzy (’62) sent the link below to a wonderful video created for our classmate Bob Kinzy’s Memorial Service in Spring 2021. Videos and slide shows have become part of birthdays, anniversaries, funerals, and other special occasions. At their best, photos and videos deliver unexpected insights into personalities as well as reminders of the times of our own lives. They can also provide comfort to family and friends who create them and to those who are grieving.

This website can be a repository for videos and slide shows about our classmates. Please send links or productions to Marilyn at mbellert@niu.edu. We will post the links all in one place for browsing.

Following are Sally’s notes about the video’s creation and importance for their family and friends.

The Producer: First, I must say that our son Tim is a video editor in California, working on various TV shows.  So, he has had more than just some experience doing this type of thing.

Production – Photos, Music, Video, Performances: This was a family affair. Tim and Brian both credited their wives with helping to produce the video Tim removed many, many photos from all our albums. And, all those pictures are just where he left them – in piles, removed from the albums.  (Never could put things back where he got them.) For the music, they found some CD’s next to Bob’s CD player and picked a song from each CD. The videos? Those were real! Bob and a 15 year-old Tim worked on the IBM sales meeting videos together, and the others were from our family life.  Our very talented grandson Matt played and sang the last song on the video, “My Life” by Paul McCartney.

The Process: The night before the memorial service, Tim didn’t even go to bed. He worked all night on the video. Many parts were so clever. For instance, in the drumming scene, Tim is the drummer. There is no head on the body playing the drums. But, many who watched the video at the service said that they never knew that Bob was such a great drummer.😌

The Importance of Memorials: Bob would have loved that video! Tim said it was a labor of love…a way of working through his grief and trying to give back to his dad for all that his dad had done for him. I have to mention that our older son Brian gave a beautiful eulogy for Bob.  Brian followed in his father’s footsteps and is also in IT sales.  Bob was his mentor, and his teacher in business and in life.  That is one of the things he misses most about his dad – talking over business problems.

I thought I was marrying a Forester. That is what Bob’s college degree was, Forestry. He ended up being a branch manager for IBM. Whatever he was doing, he was always my Sweetheart.

Editor’s Note: Remembering Bob Kinzy includes Bob’s obituary and memories of him by classmates.

This is a very endearing memorial to a man we have known as a kind and fun classmate. I am so happy to see how happily he lived with Sally and the children. Bob is someone we remember fondly and know that his spirit has passed to friends and family. Thanks to his children for making this video. It is a charming rememberance.

This video was wonderful to see at the memorial service but even better to watch a second time. Brought back such great Green Bay memories!! Thanks Sally for sharing this. You’re right, Bob would have loved this video.
