Suzanne Porter King, 1942 – 2017

Suzanne Porter King was born in 1942 in Wichita, Kansas to Wren and Neva Porter. She died in July, 2017, in Colorado where she had lived with her husband Roger King for most of their married years.  A 1960 graduate of Wichita High School East, Suzanne went on to earn a BS degree in Education at Emporia where she was a member of Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority. She completed her degree in the spring of 1963 and accepted an elementary school teaching position in Wichita for the fall of that year.

In April 1963, Suzanne married Roger King of Independence, Kansas, in a ceremony in College Hill Methodist Church. The Wichita Eagle reported that she was attended by her sister Mary Kay Reynolds, her cousin Sharon Porter, Helen Olson, Nancy Jones, and Charlotte Fox. Assisting at the reception were Brenda Benjamin, Cheryl Small, Debbie Snyder, Glenna Stearman, Karen Swartz, Mary Lohrenz, Diane Salmons and Ann Lawler.

Suzanne and Roger later moved to Colorado where he was employed as a manager with the Reynolds Metals Company. Suzanne taught school and was fondly remembered in a death notice by the Edgewater Elementary/Bridge Crew in Edgewater, Colorado. She was noted as a loving wife to Roger and was survived by Matt, Jeff, Hollie, Mason, and McKenna King.
