Melvyn Richardson, Famous Photos Taken by One of our Own

Melvyn Richardson, 1960

Making music is only one part of the music business. Management of performers and performances, audio and video technology support, and promotion are all essential. Our own Melvyn Richardson photographed major stars of the 70’s as part of the business.

Here is Melvyn’s description of his professional activity.

“After I was discharged from the Army, I decided that I wanted to be a photographer, so I enrolled in school and received degrees in the U.S. and at the University of Copenhagen. I then went on to work with many legends in the entertainment industry.

“Below are just a few pictures of my work. (Tina Turner, The Welcome Back Kotter Show, Marvin Gaye, Sly Stone and Sammy Davis Jr.). I have an extensive archive of Rock & Roll Legends of the 70’s.”

Now – enjoy a few of his photographs.

Melvyn Richardson began life in Oklahoma.  He and his family moved to Planeview so that his mother could work in the aircraft industry during WW II.  Melvyn attended Planeview schools through the 9th grade.  In the 10th grade he moved to the newly opened Southeast High School where he spent two years.  Then, his final year in the Wichita school system was spent with us at East High School where he played baritone in the East High band.

After high school Melvyn enjoyed success as a member of the military, as a professional photographer, and as a real estate professional. He lives in California where he continues to enjoy career successes while still connecting with some of his Wichita friends.
