Bruce Ellis 1942-2017
Barb Hammond – This is such a great photo of Bruce; his grin is just contagious. It reminded me of one icy winter day after I moved back to Wichita. I was living in College Hill at the time and my car wouldn’t start. So I took the west Douglas bus straight downtown to work. When I got on in the evening for the return trip, a man said, “Hello Barbara” as I sat down in front of him. I had to focus for a minute and then realized it was Bruce! He worked in a downtown bank and commuted by bus every day from his home in Crown Heights neighborhood. We had a good chat and of course, I couldn’t say no to such a sweet man when he took the opportunity to ask me to join the reunion committee for the 40th in 2000. It turned out well for me because I truly enjoyed getting to know everyone who worked on the reunions. I had not known most of them in school.
