Winter. Then and Now.
Remember this photo from the 1960 Echoes? Or how much fun snow was when we were kids? Turns out that not many Aces took this snow day off for skating and sledding. In February and March of 1960, 12″ of snow was on the ground and new low temperature records were set, not unlike this year. The Attendance Office reported fewer absences in those months than in January. What were we thinking?
Our Wichita correspondents reported this week that Wichita is trapped in Siberian weather, like much of the rest of the country. Warmer weather is expected next week. The rest of us should be so lucky, including those who hope to have power by then.

Look familiar? In some parts of the country, major winter storms with heavy snows and significant ice have been continuous for the past month and will continue.

One of those “big snow” days, I recall we were dismissed early around 1 PM to make our way home. I still have visions of driving through unplowed streets in Pawnee Ranch addition in my ’54 light blue Ford sedan, stick-shift of course. How I made it, I don’t recall, nor do I recall if I dropped off Marilyn Tompkins and Carolyn Wharton, my usual riders, on the way. Thank goodness we made it safely.
