Janet Salmon Parrish, 1942-2017
Barbara Shacklett Adams: My dearest friend forever. Janet and I met at East High and remained friends until, well, forever. We were support for each other through marriages, babies, divorces, remarriages and when friends and family passed. I miss her so much.
Obituary: Janet JoAnn (Sullivan) Parrish, 74, of Kansas City North, passed to new life on October 28, 2017. JoAnn, the daughter of Leonard and Eileen Salmon, was born November 17, 1942, in Wichita, KS. She graduated from Wichita High School East in 1960, attended Wichita State University and received her BA in Communications from Park University in Parkville, MO. (Right, Janet in 1960)
JoAnn retired from CertainTeed Corporation in 2007. She was an active member of The Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, where she served as treasurer, and enjoyed volunteering as a Stephen Minister, Eucharistic Visitor, and for the Kansas City Community Kitchen. She made her Cursillo in 2003.
Survivors include her husband, James Merle Parrish; two sons, Mike Sullivan (Quincy) of Castle Rock, WA and Dan Sullivan (Jennifer) of Cedar Park, TX; brother, Greg Salmon (Jackie) of Wake Forest, NC; step-son, Jeff Parrish (Mary) of Liberty, MO; step-daughter, Jennifer Lawhon of St. Joseph, MO; 11 grandchildren, a great granddaughter, and a second great granddaughter due in December. JoAnn also leaves behind many friends and loved ones.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, November 1, at The Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, 7110 Highway 9 NW, Kansas City, MO 64152. Following the service, the family will receive friends at a reception at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the church or to the International Waldenstrom’s Macroglobulinemia Foundation (IWMF).
