Carol Duncan Van Orden, 1942 – 2015
Native Emporian Carol Marie Duncan Van Orden passed away December 25th, 2015 at her home. She was 73. She was born to George and Beulah (Riggs) Duncan in 1942.
Carol’s loyalty is well remembered and reflected in the daily lives of the children and grandchildren she spent numerous years taking care of.
Her favorite interest was engaging in long conversations with any willing participant. Her knowledge of a wide range of topics led to many lively conversations. She could build any jigsaw puzzle with the greatest of ease. Star gazing and connecting the night time dots were also favorite activities. Her favorite sport was fishing, and she was adept at finding good fishing holes. She was a successful seamstress who made clothes and toys over the years. She made Christmas more special with the handmade gifts she gave.
Carol married and later divorced Daniel “Dan” Van Orden. She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her siblings, Wayne “Gene” Duncan, Lorraine Marshall, and Donald “Don” Duncan; children, Evelyn Smith, Carl “Scott” Van Orden, Karen Van Orden, Shane Van Orden, Sandra Van Orden, and Celeste McCabe; grandchildren, Lindsey, Gage, Elizabeth, Aryl, Rogan, Patricia, Skylar, Shawna, Jessica, Adrian, Oliver, Allison, Simon; six great grandchildren; and longtime family friend Gloria Shirley.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 09, 2016 at the Emporia Senior Center.
