Duane Nelson, 1941 – 2015
Obituary: “Mr. Duane M. Nelson in his 73rd year made his transition from Earth to Glory on Wednesday, January 21st, 2015, from Wichita, Kansas. A memorial service of remembrance for Duane will be announced at later date.”
Editor’s Note: The Class of 1960’s last known address for Duane Nelson was 1715 Sim Avenue, Wichita, which was the address for the Old Cowtown Museum until the street was renamed Museum Boulevard. He may have lived onsite as a caretaker or as a history re-enactor. The hat and scarf he wears in the photo suggest that he may have participated in the re-enactments of bank robberies and shoot-outs that happened on the streets of Cowtown to entertain visitors. Duane served in the U.S. Marines. A news article from the Wichita Eagle says that he participated in a four-day exercise to test combat readiness of the First Battalion at Camp Pendleton, involving more than 1000 Marines in an amphibious assault that involved units of reconnaissance troops, tanks, anti-tanks, amphibious tractors, and medical units.
