I composed a little poem while driving home from the store yesterday. Dedicated to anyone who needs it. Feel free to add your own verses!
THE DAY BEFORE THE DAY BEFORE CHRISTMAS
(Sing with gusto to the tune of “Jingle Bells”)
Bumping through the parking lot,
Groceries in the cart.
Wheels are getting clogged with snow,
Swearing as I go.
Traffic jams in every aisle,
People checking lists.
Prices through the roof and so
There are a few things that I missed.
Refrain I:
Oh, sticker shock; sticker shock,
What is going on?
I spent my kids’ inheritance
At the grocery store today.
Refrain II:
Oh, hurry hurry; worry worry,
Will I get it done?
What the heck, it’s Christmas eve,
It’s time to have some fun!
Merry Chrushmess, Everybody!
This is utterly delightful! I even sang it to myself and had a very merry chuckle—mostly at the text but somewhat at my lesser musical talent! Love the humor and the cartoon!
Glenna, I got a merry chuckle out of imagining you singing my ditty. Musical talent be da**ed! It’s the lustiness that counts. Let us know if you come up with a couple more verses about the new year.
Barbara, reading your story as I sang along I couldn’t help but laugh.
Hi Don, I’m glad you got a good laugh! Thanks for letting me know that you are as goofy as I am!
