Dan Kinney, 1960
This is the third in a series of stories to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the opening of East in October, 1923. It originally appeared in the October 23, 1959 issue of “The Messenger.”
Dan Kinney, ’60, East fullback, fractured his right leg from the ankle to the shin on a kickoff in the second quarter of the East-Shawnee Mission East football game last Saturday night in Kansas City.
A top contender for all-city fullback, hard-driving Danny will be out of commission athletically for at least seven weeks. Not only is Dan lost to the football squad, but not until the doctor removes his cast in early December will Dan know if he can wrestle for East this year.
Editor’s Note: The East-Shawnee Mission game occurred on October 17, 1959, over half-way through the season. As near as anyone can remember, he did not compete in wrestling our senior year.
