Winston Gordon, 1942 – 2024
Winston “Flash” Gordon, 81, finished his final race on Sunday, May 19, 2024. He passed peacefully at his home in Temple, TX. He was born on August 13, 1942, and raised in Wichita, KS. His parents were William B. and Dorothy (Elliott) Gordon. He graduated from East High School in 1960. Shortly after graduating, he moved to Dallas, Texas (1961). He became a firefighter with The Dallas Fire Department for eight years and then settled into the car-selling business. He had the perfect personality for sales. He loved dealing with people and loved cars so it was well suited to him. He sold some pretty high-dollar cars in his career, Ferrari’s and Lamborghini’s. He even told me about selling a car and delivering it to Vanna White! I don’t recall what he sold her though.
His hobby was racing and that was his “second” love. He raced Formula V’s, Formula Ford’s, and stock cars. He had a “ton” of stories from his racing days! Flash was also a dog lover and rescued several dogs over the years.
Winston had a good and long life. He faced his illness bravely and remained an optimist even in the thick of it. He told us several times he was ready for whatever time God would give him. He would say I’ve had a good life, a good family, and I am fine with my prognosis.
Preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and several Aunts and Uncles.
He is survived by his wife Carole of 29 years, Temple, TX. Daughters: Kim Arnold (Lyn) of Whitesboro, TX; Christie (Dennis) of Sherman, TX; Holly (Anthony) Bunnell, Austin, TX; Stepdaughter Wendi (Rick) of Ft. Worth, TX. Sons: Eric Gordon (Malorie) of Austin, TX. Aaron Gordon (Ashley) of Frisco, TX; Greg Gordon (Christine) of Dallas, TX; Stepson Chad Smith of Pittsburg, PA. Sister Nancy (Scott) Coon of Wichita, KS. Sixteen Grandchildren, and six Great Grandchildren.
He will be greatly missed.
