Glenna Stearman Park, 1960
Pete Kitch’s family owned a place outside of town with a pool and farm fields. We were invited to come out for a swim over our lunch break, which was two hours. A group of us were working at Val Lankford’s dad’s stock market research company.
On one of those days, Pete was driving a tractor in the field, while we girls lounged around the pool. Swimming and sunning entertained us briefly, but we needed more excitement. So, we took off our swim suits and practiced getting them back on quickly. Pete stayed out for a long time as we took turns being the lookout. It was great fun jumping off the diving board and sun bathing in the buff. I don’t remember who was at that noon day party. Memory loss is so convenient!
Eventually, we girls put our bathing suits back on – and in a hurry. Pete’s pool was in the landing pattern for one of the aircraft companies, Beech or Cessna. An airplane came in low and circled the field for a quite a few touch-and-go landings before we figured out that we had been “noticed” by the pilot. That got us moving. We returned to the office wearing our bathing suits, to save time, and ate lunch as we worked for the rest of the day. No one ever came into that office.
Pete had no idea….
