Remembering Elaine Hill Sunde

Elaine Hill Sunde, 1942-2024

Gene Carter

Elaine and I attended dances together, and we walked together at graduation. She had a charmingly wacko sense of humor if you got her going. I remember having a lot of fun with her.

Diana Woodward Hagle

Elaine was an all-around lovely person.  Just so nice and smart, a great team player. She had a wonderful life, I am certain!  Her family and friends were blessed to have her in their lives.

An exciting life, nurtured in that high school Journalism class with Mr. Cromer!

(Editor’s Note: Diana was Editor of Echoes 1960, the annual yearbook, and Elaine served as Photo Editor.)

Lee Bacon Foss

Looking back, Elaine seemed so mature and confident – in voice, appearance, and manner. I have a clear image of her driving us somewhere in her car and a vague picture in mind of her boyfriend at that time.

I had a choice of enrolling either in Journalism or Latin, and I chose the latter. Insofar as our working on the yearbook together, I recall that I had a choice of enrolling either in Journalism or Latin, and I chose the latter.  My work with the Echoes crew would have been after class, and truly I can’t place my fellow staff members except Elaine.

Elaine’s children supplied her obituary and stories about their mother.  See Elaine Hill Sunde, 1942-2024.

I remember Elaine Hill as described by Gene, Diana, and Lee. She truly functioned with a calm sense of grace, uncommon in teenagers!!

As a parent and a grandparent, we all would have loved an Elaine in our lives!

My memory of Elaine was from Sunnyside Elementary School. She was my girlfriend although I don’t believe I was her boyfriend. Damn! It’s true, I used to walk her home from school and carry her books. Elaine had a fishpond in her backyard on Rutan St. We’d snatch snails that were stuck to the slimy sides of the pond. I think in those early days of our lives we both loved nature. Somehow how we lost connection with each other in intermediate and high school. Too Bad! From what I gather Elaine had a wonderful life and I believe she deserved it.
