Jim Hamilton, Historic Gemini Recovery

Jim Hamilton

An Important Piece of Space Exploration History.πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

In the 60’s, I was an Aviation Electronic Technician in the U S Navy.

Sixty years ago, on December 15, 1965, the recovery of the Gemini 7 Space Capsule, with Frank Borman & Jim Lovell aboard, took place while I was serving on the USS Wasp CVS-18. The recovery followed the historic rendezvous in space between Gemini 6 and 7.

Pictures below are from the flight deck of the USS Wasp, after we located the capsule and returned it to our ship. The Aarcraft was a Douglas A1D Skyraider belonging to the Carrier Airborne Early Warning VW 33. “Nighthawks”

This was a proud day for all Americans πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡², and especially those of us on board the USS Wasp.

Editor’s Note: Many thanks to Jim for reminding us of this memorable event, which happened today, December 15. Jim has written several stories for this website.
