More Winter Tales – Igloos, Handy Grandkids

The Appleton Igloo

Tom Tatlock – We didn’t get any of the snow in the storms that you all had but I thought that you and others might enjoy these pictures and videos. A friend of mine built this igloo using plastic shoe boxes with food coloring and very low temperature.

It took about 24 hours to freeze the blocks. The igloo is 8 feet in diameter and  4.5 feet high. She used 240 blocks, so she froze 6 batches or more. She has two daughters, 6 and 9 years old. They live here in the Appleton area. This video shows a bit of the construction and the daughters camping out in the igloo.

Seeing this project brightened my day and I suspect it can bring a smile to others.

Thinking thoughts of spring,

Tom

Calvin Ross – Tennessee Gets Serious Snow

So far, 9.5″ of snow have fallen in Johnson City, TN.  Here’s our snow bungalow in the woods.

Grandsons sure come in handy!

On a break, Taj enjoyed hot chocolate at the fireplace before going back outside to shovel more snow.

The colorful Igloo is a delightful project that many children have wanted to do, but without the constant freezing temperatures to make it happen! On the other hand, many children have faced shoveling snow, and enjoyed the hot chocolate in a warm house! Memories are made of this!
