Summer Follies: I was thinking maybe my fellow classmates would enjoy seeing this idiot riding one of the original Joyland trains. It’s an event every year, and I was lucky to have been invited by my friend Hal Ottaway, class of ’61, whose family owned Joyland.

Joyland was a special source for fun. I went swimming with friends and family on those hot Kansas days. I particularly loved the ferris wheel at night with all the colorful lights and carnival music. I always tested my bravery by doing the roller coaster. Then staggered to the parking lot quite dizzy. Soon I was ready to go again.
