Elmer Walker, 1941 – 2020
Elmer Ray Walker was born in Guthrie, Oklahoma, on October 10, 1941, to Katherine Walker-Williams and Howard Robinson and died March 27, 2020, in Wichita, Kansas.
Elmer received his education in the Wichita, Kansas, school system and graduated from Wichita High School East in 1960. He played basketball for the Blue Aces and was affectionately known as “Big E.” (Right, Elmer practicing his jump shot in 1960)
For two years Elmer attended Dodge City Community College where he played basketball with fellow East alum James Jenkins on a winning team. He later played professional basketball for the Harlem Globetrotters.
Elmer met and married Wynetta McCoy. To this union one daughter, Kathryn, was born. Elmer leaves behind Kathryn (Kenneth) Davis; sister Mrs. Marlene Wells; brother Larry Walker; three grandchildren (Treona, Olivia Davis and Kenny Davis, Jr.), two great grandchildren; special friend Modie Holmes; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral arrangements were by Jackson Mortuary. Elmer is interred at Maple Grove Cemetery in Wichita, Kansas.
