John Wright, 1942 – 2013

John Thomas Wright, 71, of LeRoy, Kansas, passed away Sunday, November 17, 2013, at his home.  He was born October 7, 1942, in Wichita, Kansas, the son of Jessie L. and Fern L. (Starr) Wright.

He spent his childhood in Wichita and graduated from Wichita East High School. He then was employed at Boeing Aircraft in Wichita until 1976 when he and the family moved to Iola.  John was employed by Berg/Midland Brake/Haldex in Iola until his retirement in 2004. He was a hobby farmer for a number of years. He also served in the Kansas National Guard for four years. In later years he enjoyed spending time with his friends and helping as he could on their farms. He especially enjoyed attending the sporting events of his grandchildren. (Right, John in 1960)

On December 29, 1963, he and Dahlia McCullough were married in Leroy. They lived in Wichita until moving to LeRoy in 1976.   He is survived by Dahlia, his wife of nearly fifty years; two daughters, Tiffanie Harred and husband Jason, and Steffanie Hall and husband Darrin, all of LeRoy; four grandchildren, Walker and Cooper Harred and Avery and Emersyn Hall; a very special niece, Kim Beard and husband Kevin; sisters, Clarinda Howland and Ina Belle Wollner; a brother, Eddie Wright; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, November 20, 2013, at Jones Funeral Home in Burlington. Burial will follow in LeRoy Cemetery.  The family will meet with friends from 7:00 to 8:00 Tuesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to the Southern Coffey County High School Athletic Program and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
