Glenna Stearman Park, My One-Liner on Pets

Lupinus texensis

The Park family’s first dog was a North Texas outdoor farm dog, of medium size and two shades of brown.  She looked somewhat like a Saluki, but was truly a mutt.  My three boys wanted all the puppies, but this one came over to me and was properly submissive and yet pleading.  I loved her attitude immediately and soon the boys noticed her and were totally engaged.  In the car on the way home they discussed names and I just told them they needed a name that meant “something of value.” Ultimately, they chose “Lupine“ because that was the coin of the realm in one of the Star Trek programs.  I was pleased because the state flower of Texas was blue bonnets, which are more formally Lupines. She lived with us for 17 years.
