Pat Huston Lindell,1942-2023

Pat Huston Lindell, 1942 – 2023

Patricia “Pat” Lindell, born July 26, 1942, age 80, passed away on February 3, 2023, after a long battle with Lymphoma.

Pat was born to William and Bernadine Huston in Wichita, KS. She lived her entire life in Wichita where she grew up, went to public schools and graduated from Wichita East High School in 1960.

During high school, Pat enjoyed her job at Dockum Drug store in Parklane where she eventually became a “soda jerk.” During her senior year, while hanging out with a girlfriend, she met a guy named Mel. Little did she know, she was meeting the best man ever who eventually became her husband.  After a short courtship, Pat married Mel in November of 1961. They settled in Wichita where they raised their three children.

Looking back on growing up, her children talk about what an organized mom she was! She kept a meticulously clean house, and when the kids were old enough to read, she made a job chart for the kids to pitch in with all the work, which included cleaning, taking turns setting the table, doing dishes and the family’s laundry. They followed that job chart like it was the law of the land up until they left home. Pat made sure the family sat down to dinner together every night, where she also made sure the kids had proper table manners. There are many great stories that her kids remember fondly from that dinner table.

As a mom, Pat ran a tight ship, but she had fun with her kids, too. She taught them things like how to play jacks, play fun card games, how to turn cartwheels, how to knit and crochet, just to name a few. She was their encouraging supporter through all the various activities that they did throughout the school years and during their busy summer breaks. All three kids are incredibly thankful to having had the BEST mom ever!

After her retirement from Wichita School District 259, Pat took up many hobbies. Her favorite was Jacki Sorensen dance aerobics where she made life-long friends. Pat and Mel began playing golf and enjoyed many incredible trips together. Most of all, they enjoyed their six grandkids by doing so many fun things with them. Her grandkids feel so blessed to have had such an amazing grandma, and later, great-grandma (aka, GG).

Pat was preceded in death by her loving husband of 61 years, Melvin; parents, William and Bernadine Huston; and sister, Sally Christ.

She is survived by daughter, Jenae Cornejo (Marty); son, Victor Lindell (Penny); daughter, Deanne Nelson (Scott); six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Gail Rudberg; brother, Tommy Huston; sister-in-law, Sister Judith Lindell.

The family would like to express their thanks and gratitude to the staff at Larksfield Place Assisted Living and Yolanda with Harry Hynes Hospice for their kindness and care.

Rosary will be at 5:00 pm, Wednesday, February 8, 2023, at Downing & Lahey East Mortuary. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am, Thursday, February 9, 2023, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to First Tee-Greater Wichita, and Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice.
