Wow, tomatoes and peaches together! I never would have imagined such a combination. But your photo makes it look enticing with the basil. A friend gave me an “ugly” heirloom tomato a few weeks ago. It was delicious. Thanks for another walk around your property.

I agree with Barbara about the tomato-peach combination, I like both. Seems like I am more creative in my old age. Early years seemed to focus on what the children would eat. I remember taking my 3 young boys to a Chinese restaurant. Two of the boys ate Chinese food, but one placed his head on the table and wept. The chef saw him and came out to talk very kindly to him and got him to try noodles. After his first semester at college, that same child came back from college in Boston and was so excited to ask about going out for “Chinese” food. He also started gardening when he and his wife bought a home. He happily tries all kinds of food.

I love that you share your gardens with us.

Thank you, Glenna, for sharing the amusing story of your 3 boys and Chinese food! I loved it!

Just this week, I am harvesting lemon cucumbers again and, thankfully, have enough to share with neighbors and friends. That had looked doubtful a couple weeks ago when we discovered that voles had tunneled into our garden and were causing problems with the cucumber vines and flowers. Never before had we experienced vole trouble in our yard. It seems the population of voles in areas can vary from year to year; our neighbors are also noticing a surge of vole holes in their yards. A little research suggested we might deter these little rodents with mousetraps and/or garlic powder. Hopefully, the voles will leave the cucumber plants alone until our harvesting is done. . .
