After a more than a year of lock-down, many of us need a get-away. Somehow, going to the grocery during “Senior Hour” from 6 to 7 a.m. no longer relieves cabin fever. Travel – near or far – may be just the thing. We are vaccinated and ready to vacate.
We hope you will share your stories about places you have been or places you want to go in the town where you live, across the U.S., or to international locations. More than the “where” —
- What did you most enjoy?
- What do you remember most vividly, whether enjoyable or not?
- What did you learn about the region, its customs, its people, or yourself?
- How did you travel? By plane, car, boat, bicycle, foot? On your own or with a group?
- What surprised you along the way? Unexpected interruptions or mishaps?
Or the long arm of family reaching out to retrieve you? - What destinations are you considering?
This week’s travel stories represent a range of possibilities. Tom Hickey shares photos and experiences from an expedition to the Indian Ocean. Donna Unruh Hoberecht takes us on a tour of her backyard. And Jane Thompson Olsen, Lee Ayres and Diane Zinn remember times when surprises interrupted their travels.
Whether you are a hometown traveler or a tourist in far away places, we hope you will share your stories. Contact Marilyn (mbellert@niu.edu) or Diane (ddzinn@aol.com) with story ideas.
