Flora Johnson Hellmuth, 1942-2014

Babs Johnson Hellmuth, 1942-2014

Flora “Babs” Johnson Hellmuth was born on April 5, 1942, in Tulsa, the daughter of James and Sylvia Roberta (Lewis) Johnson, and passed away on May 29, 2014.  She graduated from Wichita High School East in Wichita, KS in 1960.

After high school graduation, she moved to California where she met the love of her life, Larry Helmuth, and in 1963 they married in beautiful Napa, CA. Their union was blessed with one treasured daughter, Denise Beaston. She later continued her education as an Oklahoma Sooner at the University of Oklahoma in Norman where she received her Bachelors for Legal Secretary. Babs then became an administrative assistant at Smith Claim Service Inc. in Tahlequah for many years, where she later retired.

When she wasn’t working, Babs took any opportunity to be outdoors. She was an avid golfer and could often be found out on the greens with her friends. She also had a great love for animals, her favorites being horses, cats and dogs.  As a young girl, she had a fascination and appreciation for classic cars. Her absolute favorite car was her red convertible MG.

Babs was a lively, free spirit. She loved her family very much and enjoyed being in their company, taking family vacations as often as possible. Babs was called to her eternal home on Thursday, May 29, at her home in Tahlequah, with her family by her side. She was 72 years old. Babs will be greatly missed by her family and her friends.

Babs is preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one brother, Jim Johnson; and one sister, Rene’ Johnson. Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Denise Beaston and husband, Gary of Tahlequah; and one brother, Leroy Johnson of Hulbert. Her legacy lives on in her four grandchildren, Chantel Heller of Tahlequah, Luke Beaston of Broken Arrow, Logan Beaston of Tulsa, and Casey Beaston of Tahlequah; as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and a host of friends and loved ones.

Funeral services for Babs Helmuth will be held on Monday, June 2, at 11 a.m. at Reed Culver Chapel in Talequah, OK with Brother Jay Cook and family friend Judd Knowles officiating.

Visitation will be Sunday, June 1, from 2 until 6 p.m. Babs will be entered into her final resting place at Park Grove Cemetery in Broken Arrow.
