Janet Elaine Haines Young, 65, of Amarillo died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2007. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Boxwell. Brothers Funeral Directors Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd., with Glen Walton of Bell Avenue Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery.

Janet was born May 26, 1942, to O. Kenneth and Bernice M. Haines in Wichita, KS. She grew up in Wichita, where she met and married Don Young in 1961. From this union three children were born: Donna Elaine, Jon Wesley and Nathan Neal. (Right, Janet in 1960)

The family moved to Dallas in 1970. Janet worked in the Dallas area in various secretarial positions and as a legal secretary for seven years prior to her illness. Janet was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s at the age of 52. She moved to Amarillo in 2000 to be near her daughter.

The family wishes to express their deepest heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the staff at Bivins Memorial and Hospice Care of the Southwest for their love and care for the past six years.

Survivors include a daughter, Donna Gustafson(Robert), Amarillo; two sons, Jon Young(Traci), San Antonio and Nathan Young, Sulphur Springs; a sister, Judy Duncan(Willis), Lee’s Summit, Mo.; a brother, O. Kenneth Haines II, Mesquite; three grandchildren: Michael and Melanie Gustafson and Colton Young; three nieces; and two nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to Hospice Care of the Southwest, 1301 S. Coulter St., Suite 404, Amarillo, TX 79106; or the Alzheimer’s Association, 1400 Wallace Blvd., Amarillo, TX 79106.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.
